Indianapolis Star NewspaperOn June 6, 1903 a star was born. While it’s not quite as vital as the Sun our planet revolves around, living in Indianapolis without The Indy Star newspaper would be just as hard to do. For over 100 years The Indianapolis Star has been keeping its readers out of the dark when it comes to local, national and world news. The Indianapolis newspaper is recognized as one of the most read in the entire country.

During the Indianapolis newspaper’s first 40 years of existence, its popularity rose and fell due to competition from several other local rags. In 1948 The Star shot up to the top of the list where it has been firmly seated ever since. In 2000 the Gannett Co., the nation’s largest newspaper chain, bought our local paper and has been printing it ever since. The Indianapolis Star is a two time winner of the famed Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting. The first was awarded to The Star in 1975 for a series detailing corruption that plagued the Indianapolis community police department at the time. The paper received its second in 1991 in recognition of a series dealing with medical malpractice.

While it is always good to know where you came from, nothing is as important as what’s happening right now in the world when it comes to newspapers.
