What happens when you have two teams vying for laughs against each other? Hilarious, fast-paced improvisations, that’s what, and some of the most fun ever in Indianapolis performing arts.
ComedySportz Arena is a nationwide company that has exploded in a landslide of popularity over the past 20 years. ComedySportz Indianapolis, Indiana was conceived as the perfect entertainment for people of all ages; it’s even kid-friendly, thanks to the referees’ constant vigilance.

Corporate groups and other Indy organizations just love ComedySportz. There’s even a specialized workshop called GUTS (Group Unity Training Seminars) that helps enhance inter-personal interactions and unity of spirit, no matter what kind of group participates.
The GUTS group is portable and frequently picks up and takes their sporty comedy right to the portals of big corporations. They offer three sizes of events, the Big Event, the Half-Court Match and the Mini-Match. Professional improvisers wreak hilarious havoc with information about the company woven through their comedy sketches.
Groups can choose the Getaway Event too and take over the ComedySportz Arena facility, which seats as many as 100 happy people.
Improvisational comedy is offered every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening for tickets from $8 to $15. These are competition-style entertainment events that will have the whole family in stitches and rooting for their favorites. The well trained, lightning-fast improvisers come up with new stuff every match, using suggestions for games from the audience.
On Fridays at 10 p.m., ComedySportz mounts their $5 “Improv Jam,” an hour of “long-form” improvisation suitable only for grownups.
For the past fifteen years, ComedySportz Indianapolis, the ComedySportz University has cranked out tons of highly polished, if whacky, graduates. Classes convene in the same theater where the public improvisational competitions happen, in the high-energy neighborhood of Mass Ave, one of the more kinetic of the various Indianapolis cultural districts.
ComedySportz also created their outreach educational group, the ComedySportz High School League, made of up high school students trained through ComedySportz U. This has become the funnel program that prepares future professional improvisational performers in the Arena.
Indianapolis theatre wouldn’t be the same without this impeccably funny improvisation company. It turns out that this niche in comedy is a favorite for just about everybody, making ComedySports one of the premier Indianapolis nightlife venues.
