The Odd Couple (female version) performed by The Epilogue Players | Indianapolis, IndianaEpilogue Players Theatre has a clear-cut goal, which has served them well for over 30 years: to provide a venue where people over 50 can have a chance to explore the fascinating world of Indianapolis performing arts. To this end, they maintain a top-notch community theater in the bustling city of Indianapolis. Over the decades, the Epilogue Players Theatre has carved a respected niche among Indianapolis theatres.

The Epilogue Players Theatre is the brainchild of now deceased Bertha Starkus, who nursed the organization as a well established community theater venue through the difficult first years to its current thriving state. The first show the Epilogue Players put on was in the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, after which they had the Command Playhouse at Fort Harrison State Park for four years.

From 1980 to 1984, this indefatigable group rented space in different churches around The Hedback Theatre, home of the Epilogue Players in Indianapolis, IndianaIndy to produce their plays. In 1984, they found the means to settle down at the Hedback Community Theatre, sharing the space with Footlite Musicals, a group that performs in the south building.

The Epilogue Players Theatre mounts six full stage plays or musicals a year. Some recent winners are: The Odd Couple, Female Version, the feminine take-off on Neal Simon’s famous comedy, The Pen Is Deadlier, a mystery by Fred Carmichael, and Inherit the Wind, the famous courtroom drama based on the Scopes monkey trial.

The Epilogue Players Theatre prides itself on running open auditions. This means that none of the plays are pre-cast, and every actor has an equal shot at any role, though they give preference to actors over the age of 50, in accordance with their stated mission.  The spirit of teamwork and dedication is carried over to everything the group does, including the casting, directing, and even the choosing of the productions. Anyone can submit ideas and suggestions, and the Epilogue Players pride themselves on giving everyone their own chance at stardom.
