For some 25 years, the Watercolor Society of Indiana has offered a safe haven for the Indianapolis arts in general and lovers of watercolor around the state. The society is a group of watercolorists that have banded together to promote the art within the Indianapolis art community and throughout the state of Indiana. It offers a nice variety of relevant services and functions to its members, including a quarterly newsletter, workshops and lectures, demonstrations, a membership directory with the artist’s listing, social networking and exhibit opportunities, annual exhibits with cash awards to $2500, and other art exhibitions at different venues.
The Society has become quite a viable resource for information, networking and credibility, especially for watercolorists in Indianapolis. One of the important functions provided by the Watercolor Society of Indiana is to offer educational opportunities that enhance the students’ understanding of the watercolor process, or their basic art skills. Ongoing and special workshops are organized through the WSI at various locations.
You might find, for example, a class in figure drawing with models at the Castleton Apartments in Indy. Or you might catch a demonstration on watercolor techniques by a member of the society in downtown Indianapolis, followed by a luncheon, a great chance to hobnob with fellow Indianapolis artists and meet those from elsewhere in Indiana.
There are three types of memberships within the WSI community:
- Artist Memberships: This category is reserved for artists working in watercolor who have an interest in the society’s activities and benefits.
- Student Memberships: Available to all students enrolled in any art program of an accredited higher education institution.
- Patron Membership: For those with an affinity for the art of watercolor who wish to support the Watercolor Socitey of Indiana.
