Stutz Artists Association Center: Guiding Indianapolis Art

The Stutz Artists Association Center, which hosts the annual Stutz Artists Association Holiday Show, is presently the home studio for some 60 dedicated artists. It is a non-profit organization run and operated by volunteers and a minimal staff. It is also a bulwark of the Indianapolis art community.

The mission statement for this cooperative effort is threefold: 1) the advancement of Indianapolis art through the center’s artist members, 2) community outreach and the communication of artistic ideas, and 3) to provide recognition for artistic achievements and contributions for the promotion of art in general.

The Center offers art classes, seminars and workshops to the public, in all art mediums. These classes are taught by Stutz Artists Association members and guests artists from the Indy area as well as all over the nation.

The SAA has sponsored the “StutzArtSpace,” where art lovers can teach and study, show and sell their work, and engage in social activities that connect the artist with the viewers. This space is supported by sponsorships and donations. All the activities are open to adults and children, with many of the classes geared toward Indianapolis kids who are budding artists.

Some of the classes offered in the StutzArtSpace include oil painting, figure drawing, finger painting for children and adults, beginning photography, fundamentals of color mixing, open figure drawing/painting for all levels, advanced color mixing, making art together (for parents and children 4-5 years), a kid’s Halloween costume workshop, watermedia and children’s photography.

On the first Friday of every month, the Stutz Artist Association Center artists open their studios and visit with the public between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. These events are appropriately called “First Fridays.” Art lovers can take advantage of the free parking on 11th Street, Senate Avenue and Capitol Avenue in downtown Indianapolis, and there is no admission fee.

The Center also hosts a popular two-day open house once a year. Tickets are $12.00 for general admission on Friday and $6.00 on Saturday with a ticket stub from the first day. All children under 16 enter free of charge.

The members of the Stutz Artist Association have banded together to create the largest, most successful organization of working artists in the state of Indiana. Every style and medium of artistic expression is represented here, by artists who have rich educational and experiential backgrounds, many renowned in their own right. The Stutz Artists Association Center certainly holds a place among the best Indianapolis art galleries.
