You go up to the 23rd floor of the Hyatt Regency, one of the great Indianapolis downtown hotels, then enter a plush circular dining room lined with floor-to-ceiling windows. The view of Indianapolis, Indiana is breathtaking, and takes in almost the entire metropolis, trimmed with a beautiful skyline.
If that weren’t enough, the entire restaurant rotates 360 degrees! A memorable place to propose or simply start the whole process. Spinning sedately around in your flying restaurant, you and your honey will feel your everyday worries melt away and enter a world of your own.
The Eagle’s Nest offers five-course dinners, including several gourmet items such as Indiana duck, Dijon herb crusted pork tenderloin, crab-stuffed mushrooms and white-truffle mashed potatoes. They also have a good international wine list by the bottle or the half, and decadent desserts such as their crème brulée. The food is classified as Continental.
Choose a sunset reservation if you want to really see Indy in all its glory. You’ll be able to see the sun go down and take in the night scene below, as one full revolution of the restaurant requires about one hour. The restaurant offers “Sunset Specials” too, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Make no mistake, however, the draw is the atmosphere, not the expensive food, and if you go with that understanding, you’ll have an unforgettable experience. Live piano music accompanies you on your trip.
The atmosphere is elegantly upscale, with low lighting and candles on every table. If you can tear your eyes away from the view outside, you’ll be delighted with the ceiling of the restaurant, which sports a painting of the deep night sky.
Reservations are required and dress style is suggested as “casual business.” Expect to pay about $50 each for this unique dining experience.
As an alternative, try the Eagle’s Nest lounge for just a drink and the same magnificent view. If you go on a Friday or Saturday evening, you’ll also enjoy the live piano music there.
Of all the restaurants in Indianapolis, this is the favorite place to go for an impressive, romantic atmosphere, and on the short list of Indianapolis attractions.
