The Pacers Foundation: Making a Difference

As one of the most celebrated sports teams in Indianapolis, the Indiana Pacers have a lot to give to the Circle City. But this big-hearted organization provides more than just entertainment to Indianapolis residents. The Pacers Foundation, a charitable arm of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, gives the kids of Indianapolis hope for a strong future.

The Pacers Foundation exists to encourage Indiana’s youth to make positive life choices on a daily basis. The nonprofit gives millions of dollars each year to the children of Indiana through grants, community partnerships, scholarships, and tickets to Pacers and Indiana Fever (the WBNA team here in Indy) games.

In addition to its significant monetary contributions toward toward its cause, the hard-working members of the Pacers Foundation put in countless hours volunteering at special events in Indianapolis throughout the year. For instance, the annual Fever Bowling Tournament provides fun for the whole family and promises a good time for all. The proceeds from the friendly competition go to the Fever’s Be YOUnique fund, which is a grant fund of the Pacers Foundation whose mission is to assist organizations that specifically support young women and girls.

Another exciting Pacers Foundation happening you won’t want to miss is the Masquerade. This special event is held in the fall each year and benefits both the Pacers Foundation and the Simon Youth Foundation. This festive gala honors Indianapolis families that have made a difference in the lives of Indianapolis children.

In 2007, the Masquerade paid homage to the Hulman-George family for their extensive community contributions and raised over $200,000. If you live in Indianapolis, you’ve likely heard of this notable family. Due to their connection to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its main event, the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race (the Indy 500), they’re some of the most famous faces in Indianapolis.

In addition, the Pacers Foundation sponsors a fun event featuring another sport that Hoosiers know and love. The Golf Outing, held every September, is very popular among Indianapolis residents and generally brings in generous donations from all over the state.

One of the most notable community partnerships the Pacers Foundation has formed  is with THE LEAGUE, Be Charitable. This school-based program was created to teach Indianapolis children the importance and far reach of philanthropy in everyday life. Through encouraging active volunteerism and promoting giving back in Indianapolis schools, the Pacers Foundation aims to make students aware of the impact they can have on their peers. The program is now implemented in an impressive 160 schools throughout Indiana.

When you hear “Indiana Pacers” you probably think simply of one of the favorite things to do in Indianapolis during the Winter and Spring: attend the home games and cheer on your favorites. But there’s a lot more to this inspiring Indianapolis organization than just basketball, as the Pacers Foundation sets out to prove. It also retains one of the strongest nonprofit programs in Indiana.

If you have a desire to give back to your community but aren’t sure where to start, join the Pacers, the Fever, and the Pacemates in making a difference in the lives of Indiana’s youth. Find out more on how you can help at the official Pacers Foundation website.
