The IUPUI Men’s Basketball program was founded in 1972, and is currently coached by Ron Hunter. The red, gold and black Jaguars typically host Indianapolis sports games within The Jungle, located on Indiana University – Purdue University (IUPUI)‘s campus in downtown Indianapolis.
The Jags’ first year playing Division I Basketball was 1998; they have an all-time Division I record of 161-140 and all-time overall record of 536-534. In the Summit League Conference, the team finished 2nd with a record of 15-3 in the 2007-2008 season.

The team lost five letter winners this year, including George Hill, who was a first-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs. Austin Montgomery, former Newcomer of the Year, hit 72 three-pointers in 32 games last season.
Six letter winners are returning to the program, including Gary Patterson, who set a new IUPUI record with 91.4% accuracy in free throws. Jon Avery is second on the team in blocked shots with a total of 15 last year. Billy Pettiford led the team with 21 blocked shots and was second in rebounds, assists and steals. Averaging 10.3 points per game, LeRoy Nobles missed the late season due to an ankle injury, but plans on returning. Returning player John Ashworth started one game last year and played in 30, averaging 8.8 points per game.
New members to the team include Indiana All-Star member Larry Stone from T.C. Howe, Kentucky All-Star Aaron Morris from Madison Central High School, and All-Region pick Robert Glenn of Wabash Valley Junior College. Indianapolis has a rich basketball tradition, and will look to keep it going with the IUPUI Jags.
Austin Parkinson of Purdue University is joining the Jags this year as an assistant coach. Head Coach Ron Hunter is enjoying his 15th season with IUPUI. He is further assisted on the coaching staff by Matt Crenshaw, Todd Howard and Eric Allen.
