Fireworks are a summertime staple in Indiana, and no display is more spectacular than the SkyConcert, produced every summer in Indianapolis by 97.1 HANK FM. A public festival held in downtown Indy’s beautiful White River State Park, SkyConcert is an immensely popular Indianapolis event each August.

Thousands turn out every year as dusk settles over Indianapolis to enjoy the performance; there are always plenty of “oohs” and “ahhs” from the crowd. It’s quite a view: colorful bursts of color rain down over Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians, lighting up the Indianapolis downtown skyline.
This breathtaking show isn’t purely a visual one; Hank FM, an Indy radio station, pipes out upbeat music as the fireworks blaze. This station has made its mark on Indianapolis media with its Wank and O’Brien show and plays “anything country.”
If you’re a country music fan and enjoy fireworks displays, be sure to mark the SkyConcert on your calendar. It’s a great activity for the whole family; there are plenty of food vendors and a special play area set aside for Indianapolis kids. An estimated 300,000 Indy music fans attend each year, prepared with blankets and lawn chairs.
Parking in downtown Indianapolis can be a bit difficult, so if you want to get a good spot, it might not hurt to get there a bit early. Downtown is full of fun ways to pass the time until the show; for starters, you can indulge in a little retail therapy at Circle Centre Mall. If you want to throw in a dose of Indianapolis culture for good measure, visit the Indianapolis Artsgarden, which is connected to the mall.
