It’s confirmed: Indianapolis, Indiana will host Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts and the recent recipient of a $720 million renovation, will be the site for the biggest event in sports. Hosting the Super Bowl is yet another monumental achievement for the Indianapolis sports culture.
But it won’t stop there. Hundreds of thousands of visitors will flood Indy, especially downtown Indianapolis, and the Super Bowl Host Committee is determined to provide them a convenient, colorful and unforgettable venue in which to party down.
After all, everybody knows that the Super Bowl is the world’s biggest party. So while many guests will appreciate the wonderful, out-of-the-elements walkways that connect Indy’s major downtown hotels, restaurants, venues and shopping centers like a well-engineered web, there will also be throngs of people out and about on the streets of the city’s heart.
Monument Circle, the center of Indianapolis, will be the core of activities for pedestrians during Super Bowl XLVI, and the special preparations will spread out from there. Hundreds of fire pits and portable heaters will combine with the natural BTUs and excitement of the game to keep everybody warm and happy. Cool inflatable mushroom-shaped awnings will sprout up all over the place, providing shade during the day, not to mention a surreal atmosphere, throughout the duration of the Super Bowl. Downtown Indianapolis, organizers state with somewhat alarming fervor, is going to be turned into “party central.” It’ll be a great time for the world to witness Indianapolis nightlife.
There will be fun. There will be reveling and dancing in the streets. There will be The Game. And after all is said and done, no one who was there will ever forget it.
