Michael A. Carroll Stadium: Track and Soccer in Downtown Indianapolis

The Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium, located on IUPUI‘s campus in downtown Indianapolis, serves as the training ground for members of all 14 IUPUI Indianapolis sports teams.  The IUPUI men’s soccer team and the IUPUI women’s soccer team also occasionally host a game in the state-of-the-art facility.

The legendary Michael A. Carroll Stadium was built in 1982 for $7 million, and a new drainage system, surface and soccer field were added in 1997.  Seating for 12,111 fans hosted the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships that same year.  Infield construction made soccer, rugby and lacrosse possible in the facility.  New timing, scoring, scoreboard displays and digital photo-finish timing equipment were installed in 1998.  Four hundred meters of eight, 48-inch wide lanes are covered in Mondo running surfaces.

Indianapolis track and field aficionados were delighted when the2006 and 2007 USA Championships came to  the Michael Carroll Stadium.  Other notable events at the facility include the IHSAA Lacrosse State Championships, Horizon League Championships, 2001 World Police and Fire Games, and NCAA soccer and track competitions.

Facilities also include an air-conditioned press box for up to 72 Indianapolis media workers, and wireless Internet access throughout the stadium.  IUPUI Sport Complex Summer Camps and several benefit walks and runs are held in the facilities during off-seasons.
