At Champps, Indianapolis Americana restaurant, the lively, festive atmosphere is just as much a draw for regulars as the giant menu and nightly drink specials. It’s common knowledge in Indianapolis that when there’s a Colts or Pacers game, heading to Champps in downtown Indianapolis ensures first-rate food and plenty of fun until the doors close well after midnight. Champps is a favorite on the long list of great Indianapolis restaurants.
The bar also a favorite among Indianapolis bars. It is the centerpiece of the popular hangout, more often than not packed full of patrons watching Indianapolis sports and more on the big-screen TVs in every corner over heaping plates of one of the house favorites, loaded chicken nachos. Dripping with melted queso and shredded cheddar cheese along with pico de gallo and spicy jalapeños, the nachos are listed as an appetizer but could feed a small crowd. Other favorites from the long list of expertly prepared appetizers include steaming hot spinach and artichoke dip, slow-roasted pulled pork sliders, and spicy Mongolian egg rolls served over a bed of traditional Asian slaw.
It’s easy to fill up on the appetizers, but make sure to leave room for the main course. Champps, Indianapolis prides itself on being much more than the average sports bar in terms of not only service but food as well. In addition to traditional favorites such as the blue cheese burger, grilled chicken and steak fajitas, and crispy fish and chips, more unique dishes are sprinkled throughout the menu. Entrees such as the walnut-crusted chicken, pan-fried and thoroughly coated in a crunchy coating of walnut pieces and rich pecan sauce, and bourbon-glazed pork chops, two giant chops served atop creamy mashed potatoes, give Champps its well-earned reputation for being one of the best restaurants in Indianapolis.
Given the quality of the main course fare on the menu, it should come as no surprise that the desserts are unique and delicious as well. If you’re too full for your own piece but need something sweet, order the mile high ice cream pie for the whole table to share-the giant concoction features three flavors of ice cream layered on a chocolate cookie crust and drizzled generously in chocolate and caramel.
Next time the big game comes on and you don’t feel like entertaining a crowd, let Champps Americana Restaurant do the work for you-head into fabulous downtown Indianapolis, see what specials the bartender has on tap for the evening, and enjoy a good meal with good friends!
