One of fifteen locations, the Claddagh Irish Pub and Restaurant in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, is a lively, upbeat Indianapolis restaurant that truly lives up to its name. The word “pub” actually comes from the phrase “public house,” which is exactly what the Claddagh restaurant and bar in Indianapolis is a place for friends to gather for authentic food, good beer, and lively conversation. If you love trying out new types of cuisine inspired by our neighbors across the waters, then you’ll definitely want to sample the Claddagh’s genuine Irish restaurant fare.

Starting with the long list of appetizers, each dish is either a traditional Irish favorite or inspired by one. A time-honored classic, corned beef and cabbage, is one of the most popular starters for those looking for real Irish dishes. Corned beef, shredded cabbage, potatoes and cheese fill these warm egg rolls, which are served alongside 1000 Island dressing.
Another appetizer straight from the country itself is the Salmon Boxty, crispy fried chips smothered in basil, roma tomatoes, and chopped smoked salmon all tossed in a light herbed cream cheese. If you’re not feeling too adventurous and would rather try something a little more “American,” there are plenty of options, including spinach and artichoke dip, loaded pub chips (fries to us here in the states), and “Shamrock” hot wings served with ranch dressing and raw vegetables on the side.
When it comes to the main course, it’s more of the same hearty Irish comfort food that keeps the Claddagh’s loyal customers coming back for more. There’s an assortment of “Pub Sandwiches,” all served with seasoned pub chips and coleslaw; one of the best is the “Irish Monte Cristo.” Sourdough bread is dipped in egg batter and fried in a griddle, then filled with cheeses, rasher bacon and turkey, and sprinkled with powdered sugar to create this traditional treat. Another popular sandwich selection is the Claddagh Catch Fish Sandwich, coated with bass Ale batter and served on a Brioche roll. If you prefer meat and potatoes over sandwiches, the homemade Shepherd’s Pie is for you-it’s a staple of every traditional Irish feast. And of course, the Guinness beef stew is another classic favorite on a chilly day.
It’s been said that the Irish love their drink, and the Claddagh Restaurant proves that theory with an extensive list of beer and wine and a full bar stocked with, of course, plenty of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey. And no visit to an Irish Pub is fully complete without a pint of Guinness!
