Formed in January of 1991, the popular Indianapolis band consists of Governor Davis, Steve Robbins, Dave Kemp, Marty Weaver and Frank Lloyd. They frequently perform well-known cover songs from such legends as John Lee Hooker and B.B. King in over 170 shows per year in the U.S. The group has also toured Scandinavia in the past, and has been voted as the “Best of Indy” by reader polls of Indianapolis music for over 10 years.

The Crossroads Blues Society of Indiana sponsored Governor Davis and The Blues Ambassadors to perform in a national blues symposium in Memphis, Tennessee. Along with the well-known Indianapolis bars and Indianapolis restaurants that are their natural venue, the band has also performed at the Indy Jazz Fest, Indy’s Zoobilation, Indiana State Fairgrounds, The Heron on Geist Reservoir and frequently The Slippery Noodle Inn in downtown Indianapolis.

The lead singer and guitarist of the band, Governor Davis (yes, that’s his real name), grew up in Chicago, and befriended the legendary Cash McCall. He later was awarded a music scholarship to Vincennes University, and also graduated from Ball State University.

Governor Davis strives to embody the entertainment style of James Brown. In the past, the band has played with K.C. & The Sunshine Band and Bonnie Raitt, and opened for Little Charlie & The Night Cats, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks and Solomon Burke.
