Paul Ruster Park: 100 Acres of Indy Park Along Buck Creek

PaulRusterParkPaul Ruster Memorial Park in Indianapolis is a relatively newly developed park and recreational area comprised of over 100 acres of land bordered by Buck Creek, near the Washington Square Mall. Designed as a rural natural setting, it contains both passive and active areas for recreation, including sledding and skating areas, picnic grounds, a small cemetery and a shelter, making it a great Indianapolis attraction.

Rumor has it that, long ago, a small boy was run over and killed while playing on some nearby train tracks. They say you can still hear his ghost playing his beloved harmonica in the woods. Of other-worldly interest, Paul Ruster Park is a hot spot for Indy ghost hunters and seekers of the paranormal as a haunted place in Indiana.

How about some live action fantasy games inside the park? Gryphon’s Perch, a division of a national medieval fantasy role play organization called Amtgard, meets on a regular basis at the Paul Ruster Park in full medieval combat dress and jousts about the green. It’s a great excuse for adults to go play and then have a cookout in the beautiful out of doors.

The park was acquired by Indy Parks in 1970 and a variety of community events takes place each year within its confines. Visitors can wander miles of scenic trails, fish in a small pond, or play on the playground. They can even bring their four-legged friends. If your kids are glued to their computers or mp3 players, why don’t you bring them out to experience the Paul Ruster Park? It’s a fantastic place to show Indianapolis kids that nature can be fun too!
