Michael Kelsey: Singer, Songwriter, Legendary One-Man-Show

Michael Kelsey offers perhaps one of the most unusual acts seen in Indianapolis and throughout other cities in Indiana and the Midwest.  Born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, the singer, songwriter and master guitarist, provides entertainment that is unique in Indianapolis music.

Michael’s unusual sounds and rhythms are produced acoustically and electronically to create a sonic, multi-instrumentalist show.  As the well-known local “one-man show” among Indianapolis bands, Kelsey refers to his playing style as “progressive-aggressive acoustic guitar”.

Kelsey combines soul, funk and blues influences to create his unusual sound, and is constantly finding new and creative ways to use his instrument of choice.  His guitar, tambourine, foot, mouth, hands or beer bottle may become a percussive instrument or new expression piece.  He strives to make his performances an experience for the fans, and will typically write impromptu songs for the pretty lady seated in the front row.

Fans of Michael Kelsey frequently claim his style provides the feel and sound of a complete musical ensemble.  Audiences are entranced by his physical and high-energy shows, eagerness to interact with fans, and unique harmonies and rhythms.

Michael has toured nationally with bands such as Blind Melon and Dishwalla, and frequently performs at Birdy’s Bar and Grill, located just north of the high-energy Broad Ripple cultural district.  His unique talents allowed him to qualify as a finalist in Guitar Player Magazine’s national competition, and he recently won Guitar Center’s “Guitarmageddon”, which determined Kelsey to be the best unsigned artist among 3000 national entrants.
