Of the many Indianapolis colleges and universities, Butler U is somewhat unique, in that, along with the usual educational offerings, it has created an Office of Diversity Programs, which encompasses a huge number of services and multicultural programs made available to Butler students and the community.
The idea is to give students the opportunity to delve into the differences between cultures and increase awareness and therefore unity of spirit in celebration of, rather than resistance to, diversity.
Butler also offers other opportunities for extra-curricular learning, including:
Academic and Career Development Programs, comprised of a peer mentoring big brother/big sister program; the Career Challenges Enrichment Program, a series of career planning workshops; and the Black Student Union FAST Program, created to streamline and “fast-track” the whole educational experience.
Student organizations at Butler include various cultural groups such as the Asian Students Intercultural Alliance, the Black Student Union and Amnesty International and Fraternities and Sororities.
Inside its halls, Butler also offers a full-scale theater arts program which presents plays and special events, and the Center for Faith and Vocation Series which mounts free lectures open to the public.
