Republican Robert Behning is the representative for District 91 in the Indiana State Legislature; he plays an integral part in governing the Hoosier state. District 91 encompasses a Hendricks County, Morgan County and a majority of Marion County including Mooresville and downtown Indianapolis. Behning is a familiar face at the Indiana State Capitol building where he has been serving the public since 1992.
Robert Behning’s fascination with politics dates back to his time at Indiana State University where he received a Bachelors of Science degree. In addition to his time as a public servant on the state level, Behning has also served on civic councils for Decatur Township, Guilford Township and the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce. On top of this, he is the President of the Board for Lutheran High School in Indianapolis. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Westview Hospital and is the former President of the American Legislative Exchange Council.
Robert Behning is an important member of the Indiana State Legislature, where he serves as the ranking Republican member on the Education Committee and a vocal member of the Commerce, Energy, Technologies and Utilities Committee. On a daily basis, the well being of the people of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis metro area are on his mind. He strives to make the Circle City a better place to live and a better place to visit.
As the owner of Berkshire Florist, Robert Behning is particularly sensitive to the needs of Indianapolis business owners. He fights for the working man in his legislative action, hoping to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to fulfill their version of the American dream.
This past spring Behning was integral in the passage of a bill regulating standards for sign language interpreters in Indiana public schools. The Indianapolis educational system has Behning to thank when it comes to the high standards of excellence for schools across the state. As an alum of Ben Davis High School making him a product of Indianapolis high schools, the issues of public education hits close to home for Behning.
Behning has this to say on the issue, “Standards for hearing impaired interpreters have an area lacking in our schools. Our schools must provide high qualified interpreters if our children with hearing impairments are to succeed as we strive to bring the best quality education for all children.”
Also in March of 2009, Behning was instrumental in honoring families of fallen Indiana soldiers. The state legislature offered their gratitude and condolences to 152 fallen men and women and their families, 20 of which were from Behning’s own District 91. Robert Behning offered, “The opportunity to honor these families who have sacrificed so much for their country is a humbling experience. We can never truly show how grateful we are to those who chose to serve their country in the armed forces.”
