WFNI-1070 AM Radio Station

WFNI-1070 AM is the home of sports in Indianapolis on the radio. From their downtown Indianapolis studios located at Monument Circle this station, which is best known as “1070 The Fan,” provides sports lovers with around the clock coverage of both local and national headlines. WFNI is the Indianapolis affilate for ESPN Radio; which makes it one of the most listened to radio stations in all of the the city. No matter what your favorite sport is or who your favorite teams are “1070 The Fan” is where you need to listen to get the latest sports news first.

In 1938 WIBC started broadcasting as a news radio program on the 1070 AM frequency and, until recently, lead a very boring life. For almost 70 years it had the same call letters and programming format. That all changed on October 8, 2007 when it was announced that, through several acquisitions made by Emmis Communications, 1070 AM would be the new home to an all sports radio station.

Along with a new format came the new call sign WFNI, which stands for FaN Indianapolis. WFNI-1070 AM officially joined the other Emmis-owned Indianapolis media outlets, Hank FM, B105 FM and the publication Indianapolis Monthly, on January 7, 2008. With the perfect mixture of ESPN’s nationally syndicated talk-shows and the local experts who will field your calls and comments, there is no need to listen anywhere else for your sports fix.

While their sister station Hank FM is the radio home of the Indianapolis Colts, “1070 The Fan” has every other major Indy sports team covered. Join 1070 AM at Conseco Fieldhouse to find out how the Pacers or Indiana Fever are playing. When you can’t get over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway listen to WFNI for live coverage of both the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race (Indy 500) and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. If you are more of a college sports fan tune in to get the latest on Butler University Men’s basketball, Butler University Women’s basketball, IUPUI Men’s basketball and IUPUI Women’s basketball.

In addition to all the great live sports action, The Fan features a roster of well-known local sports radio hosts. Immediately following the nationally syndicated “Mike and Mike” show, Joe Staysniak, a former lineman for the Indianapolis Colts, hosts “The Big Joe Show” from 10AM to noon Monday through Friday.

Dan Dakich, a former Indiana University player and coach, takes over the microphone at noon. Dubbed “A Genius at Work” by Kent Sterling, former program director for WIBC, Dakich has quickly become one of the most popular radio personalities in all of Indianapolis.

John Michael Vincent, or “JMV” as he’s known to his listeners, holds down the drive-time slot. Vincent ruled the ratings in the Indy market while he was host of “The Drive” on WNDE 1260, and he brings an irreverent attitude and spot-on insight to the airwaves from 3Pm to 7PM every weekday.
