The Ugly Monkey in Indianapolis proves that you don’t have to be a beautiful primate to have a good time. One of the top Indianapolis bars, the Ugly Monkey has three different areas to relax, have fun, and party with your friends in addition to a great food menu and lots of live music and events.
If you’re thirsty after the excitement and tension of a close-call Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers or Indiana Fever victory, the Ugly Monkey is a great place to stop by for a drink or two. It is only two blocks away from Lucas Oil Stadium and Conseco Fieldhouse. It’s also a great place to relax after a day of heavy shopping at the Circle Center Mall, as it’s just down the street.

The Ugly Monkey is one of the staples of Indianapolis nightlife; you should go there whenever you’re looking to party the night away. The bar has won numerous awards from NUVO Newsweekly, including Best Bar for Singles, Best Karaoke Bar, and Best Drink Specials. It was also voted Third Best Rock Bar and Third Best Place to See Local Acts, making it not only a hotspot of downtown Indianapolis, but also one of the primary movers and shakers in the Indianapolis music scene. This Indianapolis music venue knows how to have a good time.
The Ugly Monkey bar offers three large areas in which to party. The Back Room Dance Floor features Top 40 music and, as you can imagine, a lot of dancing. You’re welcome to dance the night away, at least until the bar closes. This is also where live Indianapolis bands come to rock out at the Ugly Monkey, and the bar features professional sound and acoustics, making all local bands seem larger than life. The Back Room Dance Floor has welcomed a variety of Indianapolis bands, including Rusty Redenbacher of the Mudkids, Rhino Bucket, Veins of Jenna, and Noah East.

The Retro Lounge offers a more relaxed atmosphere than the high-powered Back Room Dance Floor. Sit back with a drink or two while the hits of the 70′s and 80′s pour through the speaker system. This a great place to enjoy good conversation, good food, and maybe even watch a great Indianapolis sports game if the fervor of the stadium isn’t for you.
The Retro Lounge is also the site of karaoke night on Thursdays. The Ugly Monkey has been voted one of the top karaoke bars in Indianapolis for the last several years, and it deserves it. Thursday Karaoke Night is free and features beer for only 25 cents!
