WNDE-1260 AM is one of three sports news and talk radio stations in Indianapolis. Just tune in and listen once to hear why so many Hoosiers turn to 1260 AM when they need to talk sports. Since 2002 WNDE has been the Fox Sports Radio affiliate in the Indianapolis media and judging by the station’s popularity, this partnership will last as long as there are sports to talk about.
The station first took to the airways in 1924 making it one of the oldest radio stations in all of Indiana, the fifth oldest to be precise. In its early years it was known as WFBM and changed broadcasting frequency frequently. In the first five years of WFBM’s existence it moved up and down the dial a total of four times. Finally in 1941, during a nation-wide shake up of radio transmitting frequencies, the station landed on its permanent home of 1260 AM.
In 1973 the station added the last piece to their current name by changing the call letters to the now familiar WNDE-1260 AM. In the station’s expansive history they have had several different formats such as news radio, Top-40 music and gospel. In 2002 the current station owner, Clear Channel Communications, decided that one more change was necessary and decided to cover sports in Indianapolis. They branded their new look “Sports Radio 1260 WNDE” and the rest is history.
WNDE has a close affiliation with the radio home of hard rock in Indianapolis, X103 FM, because they are both owned and operated by Clear Channel. This means that you not only have a chance to win tickets to such sporting events in Indianapolis as Indiana Pacers games at Conseco Fieldhouse and Indianapolis Indians tickets at Victory Field, but also all the major concerts in the area. Call in and win tickets to X-Fest at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, or watch your favorite band take the stage from The Lawn at White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis.
WNDE 1260 AM covers every NASCAR race all season long except the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. All this means is that you will have to go down to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to catch all the action live and in person. Want to watch the Indianapolis Colts take the field but can’t find a ticket into Lucas Oil Stadium?
