In the biggest spectacle in Indianapolis sports, only one competitor can have the skill, perserverance, and durability to be called champion of the Indianapolis 500. This year, the winner is Brazilian native Helio Castroneves, who is now probably one of the most famous people in Indianapolis. Upon his win, he showed his enthusiasm by enacting his usual victory celebration: climbing the fence around the track for all of Indianapolis and the world to see.

Helio Castroneves has overcome great tribulation to achieve the cup for 2009; just last month he was cleared from charges of tax evasion. Castroneves is no stranger to victory, however. He has won two other years at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in 2001 and 2002. With his most recent win, he’s the only foreign-born racer to win the Indianapolis 500 three times.

Not only is he a winner on the track, but also off of it. He took home the gold on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars in 2007, showing off his great dancing skills and exuberant personality on Indianapolis television.
