Once upon a time, back in the 1970s, a phenomenal guitar player, Eric Clapton, was hanging out in a funky American cafe in London, called the Hard Rock. He got to talking with the owner, and asked them to put a plaque or something on the wall by his usual table to mark the spot as his. The owner is rumored to have said, “Why don’t we just put your guitar on the wall?” After everybody had a laugh, Clapton handed over his guitar. And the owner hung it on the wall of the restaurant. And the rest is history.
In some 42 countries all over the planet, there are 138 Hard Rock Cafe restaurants, casinos and hotels. These places represent the largest and by far the most impressive collection of rock and roll memorabilia in the world. It is estimated that over 70,000 pieces of fascinating rock and roll souvenirs, some extremely valuable, are now decorating the walls of these popular establishments.
Inside the Hard Rock Cafe in busy downtown Indianapolis, you will find nice wooden tables bedecked with blue and white check tablecloths, green leatherette booths, tons of wood paneling on the walls and polished hardwood floors. But the big draw are the hundreds of pieces of rock mementos all over the walls of the restaurant. Yes, the Hard Rock Cafe is a classic.
How about the food? Well, it’s not all hamburgers and french fries. You’ll find items like Bibb Salad with blueberries, croutons and bleu cheese; Cajun Seared double-thick pork chop with red new potatoes and braised spinach and Vanilla Crème Brule on this surprisingly uptown menu.
The Hard Rock knows how much you love it. Therefore, they’ve come to specialize in helping you create parties with them. In the Hard Rock Cafe at Indianapolis, there is seating for 260, with a 360 capacity for a standing reception. The main dining room holds 150 seated, and there are two other spaces, the “Function Room,” which holds 50 seated, and the “Hard Rock Patio,” which can seat 60.
Among all the truly great Indianapolis bars and restaurants in Indianapolis, the Hard Rock Cafe has stood the test of time, and no doubt will, for decades to come. What more perfect space could you find for a high school reunion or a 50th birthday celebration, for example? Love that old time rock ‘n’ roll? Consider celebrating it and the way it affected your own life at this unique living museum. You’ll be creating your own piece of Indianapolis history.
