Heartland Actors Repertory Theater is an Indianapolis based theater group that has dedicated itself to creating high quality theater for the Midwest. Heartland Actors Repertory Theater, or HART, was founded in the Fall of 2006 by a group of area actors who had a history of collaboration on theatrical projects in the Circle City.
Their mission as one of the newest Indianapolis nonprofit organizations is to introduce audiences to contemporary and classic plays as they connect and support regional artists. With their productions, they hope to excite, inspire, and challenge the Indianapolis arts scene. They are also driven to make a meaningful contribution to Indianapolis performing arts by creating theater that is accessible and fun for everyone.

Since their creation they have collaborated with a myriad of Indianapolis businesses and cultural organizations to create insightful theater pieces for Indy. In 2007, Indianapolis celebrated the famed local author Kurt Vonnegut. The Indianapolis Public Library Downtown, ShadowApe Theater Company, the Indiana Repertory Theater and more all created their own special tribute to Mr. Vonnegut. Heartland Actors Repertory Theater got in on the action with their production of Happy Birthday Wanda June by Kurt Vonnegut. By working with other organizations across Indianapolis, HART has created a respected reputation already.
For two summers in a row now, Heartland Actors Repertory Theater will have presented a free evening of Shakespeare in the park. Last Summer as the sun set on the White River, actors strutted across the White River State Park outdoor theater performing the masterpiece The Merchant of Venice to a packed audience. The performance was so positively received by Indianapolis society that in Summer 2009 their performance of Much Ado About Nothing will run for two nights instead of one.
The company that makes up Heartland Actors Repertory Theater are a core base of Indianapolis actors. After coming together sporadically to collaborate on performances and after receiving rave reviews in NUVO Newsweekly and The Indianapolis Star, they realized that there truly was a need for richer theater experiences in the Hoosier State and across the Heartland of our country.

The goals and the artistic decisions of Heartland Repertory are driven by a core group of actors. These actors are local favorites that have been seen all over Indianapolis in theaters such as the Phoenix Theater, the Indiana Repertory Theater, Beef and Boards Dinner Theater, and across the Midwest. Many are professors at Indiana colleges such as Butler University and the University of Indianapolis. They understand the audiences they have been performing for the past few decades, and they wish to serve their loyal audiences by creating theater that touches everyone.
The work being done by the Heartland Actors Repertory Theater is unparalleled in its professionalism, vision, and accessibility. The actors in HART are working hard to make Indianapolis richer by creating a steady audience base with an appreciation for the arts. For some good clean free family fun, check them out this summer at the White River State Park. Bring your kids, picnic baskets, blankets and chairs and enjoy a timeless classic.
These performers have the heart of the Heartland in their minds as they create shows in repertory for new and old audiences alike. For information about upcoming shows visit their website!
