Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Indianapolis Northeast

Sakura Japanese Restaurant is, hands down, one of the best restaurants in North East Indianapolis. Those in the know talk about the authenticity of the delicious Japanese food there, and rave about the service as well, most claiming that the Sakura is Indianapolis‘ best Sushi restaurant bar none.

This landmark among Indianapolis restaurants has maintained its same location for over twenty years. A smallish place, the Sakura is almost constantly packed with fans, so don’t forget to make your reservations well in advance, especially on the weekends. When you walk in, you will be instantly struck by the diversity of the clientele; some will be in evening gowns and tuxedos, perhaps coming from a concert at the Hilbert Theater in glitzy downtown Indianapolis, and some will be in jeans after taking in a great rock band at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, just a few miles to the North of Indy‘s borders. On any given night, you’re liable to see stars from the Indianapolis sports scene, businessmen, classical musicians toting their mysterious music cases and Hoosiers that represent the many different cultures in Indianapolis which help to make the Circle City great.

Yes, everybody loves Sushi, it seems, and the Sakura Japanese Restaurant is out to reinforce that sentiment. The wait staff, who have the menu memorized, constantly bear delectable treasures from the kitchen on Sushi boats, small wooden trays and big party platters. Diners feel free to talk to each other in this unique and friendly environment, because everyone is so fascinated by the unique dishes. “What’s that one?” a stranger might very well ask you, from a neighboring table. You’ve made a Sushi friend.

The restaurant has concocted a list of recommendations for the epitome of the Sakura experience:

  • Make your reservations.
  • Try the Rock-n-Roll and the Sakura Maki at least once in your life.
  • Ask for a fork if you want to.
  • Remember, nobody cares what you’re wearing.
  • Try some Japanese sake or Japanese beer with the Sushi.
  • Be sure to give the Sakura staff feedback on your experience; they love to improve.

Here are some of the amazing, authentic dishes served at the Sakura Japanese Restaurant:

  • Sushi-Sashimi dinner, a nice big tray of beautiful and succulent delights.
  • California Dinner, an enormous eight-piece roll made with crab, cucumber, fish roe and avocado.
  • Chirashi, rice cooked and seasoned to perfection as only the Japanese know how, topped with the freshest seafood assortment you ever tasted.
  • Nigiri Yokozuna, sixteen irresistible servings of Nigiri Sushi and a California roll, with your choice of asparagus roll or shrimp tempura.
  • Teriyaki Filet Mignon to die for.
  • Negimayaki, a mouth-watering dish made of scallions and cheese wrapped with thin slices of beef and sauteed in a special teriyaki sauce.
  • Seafood Teriyaki, consisting of squid, mushrooms and shrimp, sauteed.
  • Pork Shogayaki, for the ginger lover in the group.

The list never ends, it seems, and each one is more intriguing than the last. Sakura’s Japanese Restaurant offers lots of different ongoing specials too, such as the Salmon Teriyaki and the interesting-sounding Sake Chazuke. Noodles are a specialty at Sakura’s, and a favorite of the fans. Authentic soups, salads and appetizers, such as the Seaweed Salad and Miso Soup, are also available to tempt and delight you. Have you ever tried tempura ice cream? They actually deep-fry vanilla ice cream to create this incredible last act.

Sakura’s proudly offers exquisite catering from their restaurant, as well as take out delicacies. Their only competition is their sister Sushi place, Ocean World Sushi, which has the same owners and is more like another branch of Sakura’s. Between the two places, they have all of North Indianapolis covered.

This  is Japanese food at its finest in the great Midwest.
