The chef at Oakley’s is also the proprietor, Steven Oakley. At the age of only sixteen, Oakley started working at one of the great Chicago restaurants to learn all about it from the ground up. For free. That should give you some idea how seriously he takes cooking. Later, after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in New York, Oakley spent numerous weekends working for free in some of the finest dining establishments in the nation.
His philanthropic bent, enhanced by a gift for the culinary arts, paid off, and he is now the owner-proprietor of his own prestigious restaurant, Oakley’s Bistro, which he founded in 2002. His dream-come-true restaurant has gone on to win dozens of impressive awards, and he says he loves what he does. The many loyal Bistro fans claim it shows in everything from the taste to the originality to the plating to the decor of the restaurant itself.
The Oakley’s Bistro menu reads like a culinary dream come true, according to real foodees who know. It will take you a whlie to decide, among all the delicacies, exactly how to put together your meal, but from the moment you open the menu, you know that meal will be extraordinary. Try the Lobster Waffle or Suckling Pig to start, with the Wild Mushroom Soup behind it before you get to the main course, perhaps the Bistro’s mouth-watering Tilapia, and then the Chocolate Raspberry Torte for the perfect finale. You will also love the combination of the Calamari Schnitzel with lobster and artichoke tartar sauce, a fresh-as-it-gets arugula salad and flavorful black bean relish; then the Duck & Duck, a crispy spring roll with cherry relish, bacon caramel and a fennel-parmesan slaw; and the Cheese Board for desert, with the house date nut bread and imported and domestic cheeses.

At Oakley’s Bistro, as at every world-class dining room, the wines are as important as the food. Chris Hopkins, manager, sommelier and a star in his own right, oversees this crucial element of your perfect dinner.
Quite apart from the extraordinary menu, Oakley’s manages to work in several opportunities to connect with the diverse Indianapolis community at large. They support the local Indianapolis charitable organization called “Second Helpings, with donations of food, equipment and hard cash. On-site at the Bistro, they open their door for various special, ongoing activities, such as hands-on learning in the Oakley kitchen during their event called “Chef for a Day!” and the “Learning Lunches,” in which nearby Spring Mill Elementary school kids can learn about the restaurant industry first hand. Just the way Steven Oakley did.

Lunch: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday
Dinner: 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday
Oakley’s offers a complimentary wine-tasting event from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Tuesday
