Monticello, Indiana may be known mostly for its charming lake resort, Indiana Beach, but another main tourist attraction it boasts is the delightful Whyte Horse Winery. Set in a renovated 1886 farmhouse with the tasting room as the prime draw for eager customers, this beautiful winery is buzzing with visitors year-round.
To Whyte Horse Winery owners Larry and Connie Pampel, their prized wines are a product of love and patience. Their current thirteen varieties are filtered lightly so as not to take away from the fresh, rich taste of the fruits that are evident in every sip. Some of their most popular varieties are the sweet Black Beauty, Cherr-ity, and Harvest Harmony.
If you’ve visited Whyte Horse Winery before, chances are you found a favorite of your own. If so, check out the wine club; becoming a member will not only allow you receive automatic shipments at your Indiana business or home, but you’ll also receive exclusive club-only wines available to members only. In addition, there is a members-only 20% discount on all wines, complimentary VIP tours and tastings, and invitations to private winery dinners.
Whyte Horse Winery is a great place to spend a relaxing weekend afternoon by the water. The elegant decor adds to the experience; the antique fixtures and furniture are a pleasant contrast to the bustling, modern processing and banquet facility.
However, if you don’t have time for the leisurely drive from Indianapolis, you can still sample Whyte Horse’s fine wines each June in downtown Indianapolis at the Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Festival. Held in Military Park annually, this favorite Indianapolis event features samples from more than 25 Indiana wineries throughout the Hoosier state, including Whyte Horse.
Once you sample the excellent selection that Whyte Horse Winery has to offer, chances are you’ll want to make frequent trips back for more. For more information on this Monticello tradition, check out their website.
