Southwestway Park is the second largest park in Indianapolis, next to Eagle Creek Park. It was named because of its proximity within the city of Indianapolis, which is on the south west side of Circle City, between Mooresville and Greenwood.
Southwestway Park is a major hotspot for Indianapolis sports, especially athletics for Indianapolis kids. The park’s amenities include three baseball diamonds, six soccer fields, a fun playground and extensive hiking trails. During sports seasons, Southwestway Park opens a concession stand that offers all the sports food favorites.
Hoosiers have been hosting parties and other Indianapolis events at Southwestway Park for years. The picnic shelters and rooms for rent are perfect for birthdays, BBQs, family reunions, holiday celebrations and weddings in Indy.
Plans are in the making to add on to Southwestway Park. Tennis courts, an aquatic center, and more picnic shelters are to be installed. For more information about the future plans for Southwestway Park, or to schedule your next big event, visit them online.

You are allowed to park you vehicle up at the front by the yellow steel gate (mindful not to block the entrance for park rangers and DNR) and walk back to the lakes and fish. You can/will be ticketed for driving your vehicle back there, and they do patrol that on a regular basis these days, because some scumbags have dumped stolen vehicles and trash back there, so be warned on that one. You can also park up in the Southwestway lot and hike the trails back (Quite a hike, though) if you’d like less opportunity for something to happen to your vehicle from vandals. I was told eventually there will be a lot put in about halfway back the gravel lane, but for now there is nothing but drama if you drive past the gate…even if it’s left open by the communications-tower workers!
I have a question about southwestway par. I noticed that they park recently expanded to include cottonwood lake and some surronding areas. My question is am i now allowed to drive back to cottonwood and fish in the lake and use the trails
