Three sessions Aug. 8-9 include sport’s biggest names and national TV coverage on ESPN2
INDIANAPOLIS – NASCAR has the Daytona 500. In Indy Car racing, it’s the Indianapolis 500. On the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League’s Elite Champions Tour, the premiere event is the Indy Super Pull, which is returning to the Indiana State Fair for the first time in more than 15 years.
The Lucas Oil Motorsports Weekend featuring the Indy Super Pull presented by Headline fungicide will have six divisions of powerful trucks and tractors competing in three different sessions in the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand Aug. 8-9. The sport’s “crown jewel” will show off its best drivers in its most competitive classes as they look to bring home the biggest chunk of the $69,000 purse.
Scott Tedder, Marion, Ind., drives a tractor called “Mr. Twister” in the Super Modified Class. He says success depends on the right combination of engine power, tires and track usage, and he is pumped up about coming back to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to show off his 2,200 h.p. alcohol-burning hemi engines.
“I’m a second-generation driver. For years and years we pulled at the Indiana State Fair,” Tedder said. “Dad also pulled at the Indy Super Pull, indoors at the Fairgrounds Coliseum, so we’re very excited about coming back and running there.”
Lucas Oil President & CEO Forrest Lucas is also thrilled about returning the competition to one of the circuit’s most prestigious venues.
“The last time I saw a tractor pull at the (state) fairgrounds was in the late 1950s,” Lucas said. “I was showing cattle there and walked over to see the one-lane, stock tractor pull. Bringing this professional pulling series back to Indianapolis will be one of the proudest moments in my motorsports career.”
The two-day event will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by ESPN2, airing sometime in the fall. There will be two sessions on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 1 and 7 p.m. with another session Sunday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. Each session will feature four classes staged on two tracks to provide continuous action.
