“Motorcycles on Meridian” hosted by Indianapolis Downtown

As the world’s best motorcycle racers fill the Indianapolis Motor Speedway later this month, the Red Bull Indianapolis GP will take over Indianapolis downtown. Motorcycles on Meridian is a gathering of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts that has become a favorite of the Circle City.

From 7 pm to 3 am on Friday August 28 and Saturday August 29, Monument Circle and South Meridian Street will be a flurry of engine roars and leather. Motorcyclists will gather to share interests and celebrate the impending race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

2008 was the inaguaral Motorcycles on Meridian. The streets of Indianapolis downtown were an ocean of bikes and people, moving in waves. The event is for people with and without bikes. Interested parties with no hog of their own are welcome to poke around and marvel at the impressive choppers. On these two nights in August the motorcycle culture of Indianapolis is open for everyone to enjoy.

During the event, South Meridian Street between South Street and Maryland Street will be open to motorcycle traffic only. Parking will be available on the South side of Monument Circle and on South Meridian Street to Maryland Street. Cyclists must enter the route from South Street and move North on Meridan Street.

This Indianapolis event is organized by Red Bull Indianapolis GP local organizing committee, which is comprised of members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis Downtown Inc., Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, ABATE of Indiana, Department of Public Works, the Indiana War Memorial, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Indianapolis businesses along South Meridian Street.
