SWIRCA Hosts Annual Benefit with a Variety of Local Brews

Looking for an activity this weekend that will spice things up? Look no further than the annual benefit for the Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging this Saturday August 15. This year is the sixth annual benefit for SWIRCA, and this year is sure to be better than the rest. Evansville, Indiana opens its door to this noble cause and supports this benefit as best it can.

With a wide variety of spirits to sample this festival makes its attendees the judge. 100 Indiana wines, 118 Indiana beers and even some harder stuff like margaritas from Evansville, Kentucky Bourbon from Carmel, and vodka from Indianapolis will compete to win the Taster’s Choice award.

These brews are a taste of the Hoosier state. With a Slender Blush wine from Plainfield and Evil Cabarnet from Indy, it will be a stiff competition. Treat your taste buds with shadows of blackberry in a Georgetown wine, hints of raspberry in a Vincennes wine and even blueberry from Bloomington.

The beer selection this year is bigger than ever. It includes Diesel Stout from Columbus, Sheet Metal Blonde from Noblesville, Ol’Woody Pale Ale from Fort Wayne, Hop Head Ale from Elkhart, and brews with ominous names like Zombie Juice and Total Eclipse from the Ohio Valley Homebrewer’s Association.

All told, 39 brewers from 12 states will serve up two ounce samplers of beer and wine and one ounce samplers of the hard stuff. Tasters will vote by ballot to decide who has the best elixier.

There is more than just drinking at this Indiana event. 16 caterers will be serving up grub from around the world, from Chinese to Irish to deep South to Mexican and many more, there will be something to satisfy everyone’s cravings.

On top of that the benefit offers life entertainment. The six member band from Evansville, Better Than Nothing, will create dizzying music for your pleasure as you sip away on your favorite brews. In addition, a local law firm is offering free rides to everyone who needs, but does not have, a designated driver.

All the proceeds of this event go to support the Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging, an Indiana nonprofit organization that works to help the elderly. This group is striving to make life better for people across Indiana.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. With special group rates for fifteen people or more, this could be the perfect setting to spend some quality time with your closest friends. For more information call SWIRCA at 800.253.2188.
