A giraffe was born at the Indianapolis Zoo on Saturday. After the long, 16 month gestation period, giraffes Takasa and Eddie welcomed their youngster. The baby giraffe, which is still nameless, weighed in at 156 pounds and stood six feet tall. The young giraffe is the only baby to be added to the Indianapolis Zoo’s herd of 5 giraffe since 2005. On Saturday, the mother giraffe was on display when she went into labor, though the zookeepers were able to get her inside to deliver the baby. Another giraffe at the Indianapolis Zoo, Elena is currently pregnant and expected to give birth later this year.

The Indianapolis Zoo is accredited as a zoo, aquarium, and botanical garden by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is home to 360 different species, including 14 endangered and three threatened species.
