Benjamin Harrison, 23rd president of the United States, would be 176 years old today. In his honor, the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Home, a favorite of the many good Indianapolis museums, will be handing out free birthday cake to its visitors today, until 3:30 pm.
This free event is not only something you and all Indianapolis children will love, it can be an excellent teaching experience as well. The Indianapolis museum is the former home of President Harrison, who was in office at the White House from 1889 to 1893. Harrison is probably the most celebrated of all famous Indianapolis people. If you haven’t visited the unique museum before, you and your family are in for a real treat.
Tours through the museum in Indianapolis’ downtown sector operate every Monday through Saturday and some Sundays. You’ll be escorted through ten rooms full of authentic antiques and paraphernalia of the epoch. There are also other ongoing special events mounted frequently at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Home, dedicated to offering Hoosiers from Indianapolis and all the many cities in Indiana a genuine glimpse into the Harrison generations and the history of Indianapolis and the nation at that interesting time.
Taking the kids to the Indiana State Fair? If you’re from out of town, you’ll all most likely be staying at one of the nearby Indianapolis hotels. The Harrison Presidential Home is close by, one of the many Indianapolis attractions in downtown Indy.
