Love Me Tender is a musical variety show at the Phoenix Theater in this year’s indyFringe Theatre Festival taking over Indianapolis downtown. A cover band, led by vocalist Randy Strand, plays some of the most cuddle inducing pop hits ever recorded. You can hear all your favorite golden oldies at this show including The Beatles, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and of course Elvis Presley.
Flanked by bass guitarist Cutler Armstrong and pianist and harp guitarist Brad Hoyt both of Butler University, Strand croons away his favorite songs. This certainly is the perfect show to take the apple of your eye to. But Strand warns in his show’s description, “Plenty of cuddle tunes… Artists not responsible for what happens after!”
Indeed, I was sad I forgot to bring my sweetie to this one. It is the perfect show to take a break from the theatrics, enjoy a glass of wine and hold hands and tap feet with the one you love. Strands voice will transport you around the world as he perfectly emulates the King, James Taylor and others. With a chill vibe, he sings love to the world. But watch out ladies: if you show up with out your men, you just might get pulled up on stage to dance with Strand himself.
For some spirited renditions of the classics and your old favorites, come to Love Me Tender, playing now in the Cabaret Theater of the Phoenix building, sponsored by Storytelling Arts of Indiana. The indyFringe is heating up as Mass Ave cools down. The place to be this week is Indianapolis as the biggest showcase of Indianapolis performing arts, Indianapolis music, and Indianapolis art takes place.
