Blunder Construction, starring Brent McCoy, is now playing at the Theatre on the Square as part of the indyFringe Theatre Festival. You may have seen McCoy on the cover of this week’s NUVO Newsweekly, as did everyone else in the audience on Friday night. McCoy, of Greensboro, Vermont, played his one man juggling, balancing and slap stick act to a packed Indianapolis house.
Blunder Construction is a simple show. McCoy, a seasoned street performer, basically pulls his act in doors. From juggling knives, to balancing on a big orange ball, to showing of his skills with a Chinese yo yo, McCoy’s show is totally family friendly and totally fun.
McCoy is flirtatious, fun, and absolutely adored by his audience. Eager to clap and to “oooo” and “aaaahh,” each adult is made into a kid again as they marvel at McCoy’s skills, which at times he seems to be as stunned by. Blunder Construction has been in the indyFringe for a couple of years running now, albeit under a different title. But this year seemed to be McCoy’s year. Last night he was the King of Fringe.
At his 165th show of 2009, McCoy experienced the true power of indyFringe at its height. An unknown actor with a show of his own design get to play to an overflowing audience. No where else will actors so early in their career be given the chance to feel like a super star.
Check out Blunder Construction this weekend at the Theatre on the Square’s main stage. The indyFringe Festival maybe winding down, but there is still plenty of Indianapolis theater to take in. Do not miss this Indianapolis festival that celebrate the power of entertain. Indianapolis performing arts, Indianapolis visual arts, and Indianapolis music finally have a home, at least for a week, as the indyFringe Festival takes over Mass Ave and Indianapolis downtown.
