Civic Theatre’s Season Opens September 11 with Evita

Civic Theatre in Indianapolis kicks off their season with Evita from September 11 to September 27; this classic is highly anticipated in Indianapolis theater. Civic Theater located close to the heart of the Circle City, has been producing theater in Indy since 1915, and is considered the oldest and longest running community theater.

They kick of their season this year with Andrew Lloyd Weber’s classic tale of Argentina’s sweetheart Evita. The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this Andrew Lloyd Weber/ Tim Rice masterpiece tells the story of legendary Eva Peron and her amazing rise from poverty to become the most powerful woman her country and, indeed, Latin America had ever seen.

“Saint to the working class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military,” Argentina’s controversial First Lady, who died at the age of 33, was destined to leave a fascinating political legacy unique in the twentieth century. Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, the show creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.

Civic Theatre dares to bring this masterpiece to life as their contribution to Indianapolis performing arts. As a company they fuse Indianapolis music with dance and create wonderfully exciting pieces of theater.
