Butler University’s Vivan S. Delbrook Visiting Writer’s Series starts tonight at 6:00 pm with author Andy Levy, the Edna Cooper Chair in English. Butler University has a long standing tradition of bringing some of the most interesting contemporary writers to Indy as part of their Visiting Writer’s Series. In the past they have hosted such notable writers as Nick Hornby, Alessandra Lynch, Terrance Hayes, and Chris Abani. These evenings are free and open to the people of Indianapolis.
This year’s Visiting Writer’s Series at Butler University will kick start with Professor Andy Levy. Levy has been a professor of literature and writing at Butler University for a number of years. As the head of the Writer’s Studio at Butler University, he makes it his mission to make better writers. This theme holds true in his published work.
As author of the book The Culture and Commerce of the American Short Story, Levy has dissected the story of storytelling in his attempt to make it accessible to all. Other of Levy’s credits include his most recently published book The First Emancipator (Random House), which was considered “Best of 2005” by the Chicago Tribune, Amazon, and Booklist. He is also co-author of Creating Ficiton: A Writer’s Companion and co-editor of Postmodern American Fiction: A Norton Anthology.
This year’s Visiting Writer’s Series at Butler University is sure to be a success. Andy Levy is a strong start to a big line up including Walter Mosley, Jorie Graham, C.J. Hribal, Katie Ford, Michelle Huneven, and Nick Flynn. The Writer’s Series recieves sponsorship from NUVO Newsweekly and Butler University’s English Department.
By hosting these Indianapolis events, Indianapolis performing arts, and Indianapolis music, Butler University maintains its reputation for excellence in Indianapolis education and as an Indiana university. The Bulldogs are about more than basketball! Go Blue!
