Phoenix Theatre Opens Shipwrecked! This Week

The Phoenix Theatre opens Shipwrecked! this weekend, a fantastical glimpse into the mind of a sea faring wandering with a vivid imagination. The show opens this Thursday, October 15 and runs through November 8. Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for Indianapolis people younger than 24 on Friday and Saturday nights. But if your arts and entertainment budget is on a shoe string, you can take advantage of the Duke Energy Cheap Seats on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons, just $15.00 for everyone.

Shipwrecked!: An Entertainment is the exotic journey of a capricious sea-farer out to conquer the world. His quixotic notions land him in a slew of tall tales as he weaves a yarn that the whole family will enjoy. The story begins with an old man’s simple declaration, “I’m about to tell you a story.” From their the world of Louis de Rougemont begins to unfold. As a boy, he is enamored with the stories of Robinson Crusoe and Arabian Nights. At the age of sixteen, he sets off toward Australia, out to find some adventure of his own. However, once his ship is capsized Louis finds himself in a wild predicament as the soul survivor. He and his dog are washed up on shore, alive but alone.

From there, he regales his audiences (or passes his own time away) by doing gymnastics on the beach, riding on the backs of sea turtles and mingling romantically with an Aboriginal woman. His journey grows more and more wild until he finally returns to London, thirty years later. His tale finds him an instant celebrity, but are his claims for real? Or was it all simply the adventures of an overactive imagination? Find out what happens to Louis de Rougemont in Shipwrecked! at the Phoenix Theatre this month.
