Recognizing that Terry Lee could have opened an auto dealership practically anywhere in the Midwest after selling his Cincinnati store, the choice to plant Honda roots in Avon demonstrated a vote of confidence that the Avon, Indiana community is the right place to launch a new business.

The start-up costs for opening the state-of-the-art Terry Lee Honda dealership landed around $8M. The facility includes a service department with 29 service bays, providing the fastest service possible. While the Honda Certified mechanics are at work, customers can relax in a waiting area featuring a big screen plasma TV, a kids’ play area stocked with toys, and complimentary gourmet coffee & teas.
Planning for the project began over three years before the doors were opened. At that time it was not expected that the opening would land in an economic downturn. Despite the difficulties facing the auto industry, Terry Lee Honda was profitable from the start. Mr. Lee gives credit to the community for much of his Honda dealership’s success.
Mr. Lee refers to the stretch of US-36 on the west end of Avon as “The Auto Mile” – a location that is destined to attract more dealerships. Aside from growing up in Indianapolis, Terry Lee explains that he was drawn to Avon for its upscale demographics, cooperative business climate, and for the suburban location fit for meeting the needs of the Greater Indianapolis Honda marketplace.
