Press Release: INDIANAPOLIS (October 19, 2009) – The 500 Festival is looking for companies to be a part of the magical month of May. The 500 Festival announced today that the first annual 500 Festival Volunteer Fair generously hosted by Indiana Pacers Sports & Entertainment will take place on Thursday, November 5 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Conseco Fieldhouse. Those who attend will get the chance at great giveaways, free drinks and food and the chance to register to win tickets to 500 Festival events and Indianapolis 500 mile race® Practice and Qualification days!
The Indianapolis non-profit organization is looking for volunteers to help produce a variety of the community of Indianapolis events and programs that celebrate the Indianapolis 500®. Volunteers play a critical role in producing a month-long series of events. Attendees will learn about volunteer opportunities which are available for individuals or groups in more than 100 different areas including the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the IPL 500 Festival Parade.
The 500 Festival Volunteer Program is a great team-building experience for groups of all sizes. By volunteering together, companies, groups and families benefit by giving back to the community and experiencing a 53-year tradition in Indy. The 500 Festival works with groups of all sizes to find the event and area that best meets their needs.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization,” said Joelle Baugher, Program Manager, 500 Festival. “We are very fortunate and grateful that each year 7,000 volunteers contribute their time to our events and programs, and they are the reason why the 500 Festival is one of the largest and most successful festivals in the nation.”
The registration system for the 2010 Volunteer Program will open in January. Those who sign-up to volunteer before 5:00 p.m. on April 12, 2010 will receive an exclusive invitation to Volunteer Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 15 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway®. Volunteers also receive a 500 Festival volunteer T-shirt, an official 500 Festival event credential, a Volunteer Program Pin, complimentary snacks, refreshments, parking and guaranteed fun!
Last month the 500 Festival Volunteer Program earned a Silver Pinnacle Award for Best Volunteer Program from the International Festival & Events Association (IFEA). Each year, the IFEA recognizes outstanding examples of quality and creativity in the promotional programs and materials produced by its 2,400 member festivals and events around the world. More than 1,500 entries were submitted this year from the world’s top festivals and events.
