2009 ISSMA Marching Band State Finals

Indianapolis will be alive this weekend in 2009 with all the fervor and excitement that Indianapolis sports bring. No, residents of the Circle City aren’t excited about the Week 8 Indianapolis Colts game; it’s high school marching band season, and Indiana‘s best are coming to town on Saturday.

Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis will be full of the sounds of rattatat percussion, booming brass, and lilting woodwinds as forty Indiana high schools compete for the Indiana State School Music Association state championship. No less than eight members of the Indianapolis education system will make an appearance on Saturday, including the marching bands of Avon, Center Grove High School, Lawrence Central High School, Ben Davis High School, Greenwood, Plainfield, Beech Grove High School, and Monrovia.

The Zionsville High School Marching Eagles, who seemed poised to make a run for the title after stunning placements at the Ben Davis Preview of Champions, failed to qualify in last Saturday’s semi-state competition at Pike High School in Indianapolis. It just goes to show that you can never predict who will do well and who will go home in the ever-competitive high school marching band circuit.
