George Washington Community High School

George Washington Community High School is a model of Indianapolis education in the Circle City and an inspiring part of the Indianapolis community. With a commitment to academic excellence, mutual respect, and personal responsibility, the staff at George Washington Community High School are creating intelligent young adults with voracious appetites for learning. George Washington Community High School has a diverse student body, with no race making up more than half of the total student population. In such diversity, lays the perfect opportunity to celebrate and learn from difference. Students who attend George Washington Community High School live in the Indianapolis neighborhoods of Haughville, Hawthorne, Stringtown, and West Indy neighborhoods.

Students who attend grades seven through twelve at George Washington Community High School reap the benefits of attending a “full-service community school.” A variety of services are provided on site for these Indianapolis kids including tutoring, mentoring, after-school care, health, mental health, youth leadership, physical fitness, adult ESL classes, cultural, college prep, community service, civic engagement, scholarship, public recreation, parent enrichment, and violence-prevention programs. These kids are truly products of being raised by a village of caring adults.

Perhaps the most impressive achievement made by the population of George Washington Community High School was in 2009, when 100% of the schools graduating class were accepted into post-secondary educational institutions. This accomplishment is particularly impressive when the latest United States Census is considered. Only 5% of residents age 25 or older in the neighborhoods that attend George Washington Community High School attended college. Now their children have the chance they never had to live a more successful life.
