University of Indianapolis Unveils New Art Department Improvements at Free Open House and Reception

The Arts DepartmentĀ  at the University of Indianapolis is throwing a celebratory open house and reception in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center on Friday, November 6, 2009, between 4:00 and 8:00 pm. This free reception, the Fine Arts Department has opened its doors to the public, and all are encouraged to come see the new wonders wrought by the UIndy scions of art.

The reception kicks off an exhibition that will last through the month of November and will showcase, along with the artwork in the DeHaan Gallery, recent renovations accomplished and studio spaces created for the UIndy Fine Arts Department. For many years, no such changes have been made to the Fine Arts Center building, but modernizing curriculum adjustments, as well as a new growth spurt in their graphic design sector, gave the remodel some urgency.

Renovations now provide a separate space of their own to visual communications majors, who constitute about half of the number of art majors in the department. These lucky students also now have at their disposal an enormous computer lab in which to explore the new digital possibilities exploding continually in the field of Visual Communication Design.

The new Studios and labs will be open to visitors and those in the know will be available to disseminate information and answer questions. Visitors to the Christel DeHaan gallery will see many new works of art and quite a few old favorites from UIndy’s permanent collection. After the inaugural reception, the art exhibition will remain open to the public until December 4, 2009.
The University of Indianapolis is the state of Indiana‘s only private university that has been accredited by the NASAD, (National Association of Schools of Art and Design). Students may receive higher education degrees of Bachelors and Masters of Art. Indianapolis education in general and Indianapolis art in particular have greatly benefit by the the learning academy’s energetic influence, on campus and off.

The Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center is located at the University of Indianapolis’ entrance, close to downtown Indianapolis. Fine art and the live arts are all promoted in this unique space, making it a premier Indianapolis performing arts venue and an important center for the Indianapolis art community.
