Indianapolis Jazz Foundation Presents “Jazz on the Avenue”, Hall of Fame Inductees, Scholarship Winners

On November 19, Indianapolis music fans will get a taste of the thriving jazz scene that existed in Indianapolis in the early years of the century. The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is kicking off the holiday season with its Holiday Showcase, “Jazz on the Avenue,” a live music performance that will feature the likes of Steve Allee, Everett Greene, Cynthia Layne, Bill Lancton, and Mary Moss.

“Jazz on the Avenue” will take place at the Madame Walker Theatre on historic Indiana Avenue, an Indianapolis cultural district that was home to quite a few influential jazz musicians, many of whom are now in the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation’s Hall of Fame. In addition to the music, the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation will also be inducting new members into its Hall of Fame: Tommy Wills, Frank Smith, Bill Pinnick, Al Coleman, and Reggie Duvalle.

The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is an Indianapolis musical organization that dates back to 1994; it is dedicated to promoting the growth of jazz music, performers, and venues in the Circle City. In the past, they have partnered with the Indy Jazz Fest to bring the best acts in to Indianapolis. The group also sponsors many other Indianapolis events in addition to their Holiday Showcase and the Indy Jazz Fest.

Instrumental in musical aspects of Indianapolis education, the foundation also sponsors scholarships for promising young musicians. Three such musicians will be performing at the Holiday Showcase on November 19: Nick Tucker from the University of Indianapolis, Joe Longardner from Butler University, and Philippe Moore from Marian University. Don’t miss this chance to see these bright young performers play alongside the seasoned veterans!

This will be the thirteenth annual Holiday Showcase, and doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door and $20 in advance, perfectly affordable for a great night of music and history at the revered Madame Walker Theatre!
