In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time to pray for and honor loved ones that have passed on. Altars are built and gifts are shared to honor the dead. This tradition has been traced back by scholars to an ancient Aztec ritual, though many other cultures around the world have similar celebrations such as Spain, Brazil, and even in the Philippines.
