Northwest High School is committed to seeing each of its students operate at the height of their capacity so that they are prepared to be fully independent. Faculty and Staff at Northwest High School work diligently to instill the value of self-motivation into every Indianapolis kid who sits in their classrooms. Located on Indy’s Westside, Northwest High School offers students variety and values in their Indianapolis education.
At Northwest High School, students study in several areas in order to successfully receive their diploma. Each student at Northwest High School takes courses in Business, English, Math, Science, Physical Education, Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts and World Language. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in International Baccalaureate, an advanced studies program. The International Baccalaureate program holds students to a hire standard. They must complete more extensive course requirements to graduate with an IB diploma.
Freshman at Northwest High School are placed into the Freshman Academy. The Freshman Academy places freshmen students on the right track to complete their Core 40 and receive their diploma. Northwest High School’s Freshman Academy is designed to help young students transition from middle to high school in a more structured environment.
But Northwest High School offers more than just academics. All students at Northwest High School are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities. Students can sing in the choir, act in a play, write for the newspaper or compete in science, math, and speech and debate competitions. Northwest High School also offers team sports in the Fall, Winter and Spring. As part of the Indiana High School Athletics Association, Northwest High School competes against other central Indiana high schools in a variety of Indianapolis sports.
With ISTEP test scores consistently higher than or equal to Indiana averages, students at Northwest High School prove to be some of the smartest. That is why many Northwest High School graduates go on to attend the largest colleges and universities in Indiana. These students know what to expect from college level classes, as Northwest High School has a strong focus on preparing students for secondary-education.
