Southport High School

Southport High School is the older sister school to Perry Meridian High School; both are located near each other just South of Indianapolis downtown. The faculty and staff at Southport High School operate under three simple phrases: “In Class and On Task,” “Be Respectful to be Successful,” and “Communicate… No Surprises.” With these ideas leading teachers and students through daily life at this Indianapolis school, they work together toward the vision that every student will transition to the next phase of their lives.

Southport High School students are known as the Cardinals. These Indianapolis kids proudly don their school colors of red and white as they cheer on more than 2o teams involved in various sports at their school. As a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, athletes at Southport High School travel across central Indiana to compete in Indianapolis sports events. These Hoosiers are well aware of the value that team participation can add to Indianapolis education.

In addition to offering a myriad of opportunities to get physical, Southport High School has dozens of clubs and other activities. Each student is encouraged to find their niche in the school and pursue their personal interests. This Indianapolis school has one of the most impressive school news organizations in all Indianapolis Public Schools. The Southport High School News Bureau has up to date information on their website about all the goings on of the school. In addition, they produce a biweekly email newsletter to all Southport High students. The reporters for the Southport High School News Bureau also act as liaisons between Indy news stations and news from Southport High. These students are gaining hands-on experience and a sense of personal responsibility as they work towards a common goal.

Southport High School believes in creating well-rounded students, who can speak to a variety of topics. Faculty and Staff work hard to prepare their students for college life. With a variety of classes offered on all subjects at all levels, students can tailor make their course of study within the Core 40 requirements set out by the state of Indiana. Many graduates of Southport High School go on to attend some of the largest colleges and universities in Indiana and the United States.

These Hoosier kids are getting prepared to become productive members of Indianapolis society, global citizens and life long learners. For more information about the Southport High School Cardinals, visit their website.
