How “usable” is your world? Why is it that high-tech items are so difficult sometimes? What kind of long-term impact do these products have on the environment? How can we most efficiently and most respectfully live with our planet and sustain the rapid growth on all levels necessitated by these modern times?
These and other fascinating and important questions are addressed by a global organization called Usability Professionals’ Association, which presents an annual conference called World Usability Day. The theme of this year’s 5th Anniversary World Usability Day international conference on November 12 in Indianapolis, Indiana is “Designing for a Sustainable World.” The importance of this topic is clear, as technology continues to grow at an exponential rate and threatens to usurp the natural order of things as we know it.
What exactly is the delicate balance between the benefits and threats of technology today? The World Usability Day UPA Conference provides an interactive forum to examine this question in detail through the platforms of lectures and break-out sessions. Speakers will offer up-to-date information and ideas of interest to all students and professionals in the field of usability, as well as anyone on the path to building a world that is as sustainable as it is practical.
