The largest gathering of percussive arts in the entire world comes together this November 11 through 14, just in time to coincide with the 2009 Bands of America Grand National Championship. The Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) will take place at the Indiana Convention Center and the Bands of America Grand Nationals will be held just next door in the attached Lucas Oil Stadium. Over 150 separate special events and activities on fully twelve different stages in the heart of Indianapolis comprise the exciting PASIC 2009 and showcase some of the world’s premier percussionists.

Also slated to coincide with all these explosive happenings is the big International Drum and Percussion Expo, from November 12 through 14, which features over 100 exhibitors displaying all the latest in percussion mallets, sticks and other gear, percussion instruments, accessories, music, related services and publications. And, as if all this reverberation isn’t enough, the renowned PASIC Marching Percussion Festival offers individual and small ensemble competitions, an interactive clinic and a “Marching and Standstill Competition” for the Fred Sanford Award, all stretching over Thursday and Friday, November 12 and 13.
The dynamic group behind the Indianapolis event is the Percussive Arts Society. Founded back in 1961, PAS is well-known across the globe as the premier organization for the promotion, education and appreciation of the percussive arts. PAS holds a firm footing on the registers of Indianapolis non-profit organizations, and maintains two publications, Percussion News and Percussive Notes, an active website with archives and research databases, the Percussive Arts Museum and Library and a conference center. PAS is headquartered in the Indianapolis downtown sector of Indiana’s state capital.
Serving not only cities in Indiana, but all over the United States for almost a half-century, the Percussive Arts Society is a major driving force for advocacy of professionalism in percussion performance and education on all levels. More than 6,000 participants are expected to attend the PASIC gathering on this, their 34th annual offering.
