The LGBT Film Festival brings insight into gay and lesbian films and filmmakers from November 13 -15, 2009 in Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and at Indiana University – Purdue University (IUPUI). This Indianapolis event is second only to the Indy PRIDE Festival each summer in supporting the LGBT culture of Indy. This Indianapolis festival allows citizens of the Circle City to don the shoes of someone else. See the world from a different perspective at the LGBT Film Festival this weekend.
The festivities begin the evening of Friday, November 13, 2009 when special guests Catherine Crouch and Kelly Hayes screen and discuss their short film Buttery Top along side several other short films. Explore butch/ femme issues in this romantic romp through a first date. The films begin at 8:00 pm in the Tobias Theatre of the IMA. The fun starts up again the very next day at 1:00 pm at the IMA, with a collection of Lesbian Shorts in the Deboest Lecture Hall. For LGBT youths, or those struggling to understand a young person who has recently come out, check out the Tobias Theatre at 1:30 pm, where a collection of Youth Shorts will be screened. These young filmmakers have a unique perspective on growing up gay in Indiana and the United States.
The weekend is peppered with a variety of options to choose from. Shorts On The Edge offers an periphery perspective on the gay and lesbian community, while gay men who are more readily accepted in mainstream culture, offer a collection of Gay Shorts from their perspective. For a special treat check out the “Kweering up Naptown Music Showcase” at 9:30 pm on Saturday in the Doboest Lecture Hall, where the LGBT Indianapolis music community will represent.
On Sunday, the LGBT Film Festival moves to IUPUI Campus Center for more screenings, beginning at 1:30 pm. From same sex marriage to understanding the difference between transgender individuals and drag queens, the LGBT Film Festival touches on ideas and issues that matter not only to the LGBT community but to the Indianapolis community as a whole. Bridge the gap of understanding our Hoosier LGBT brothers and sisters.
Tickets for this Indianapolis art event range from $60.00 for a full festival pass to $8.00 for individual films ($5.00 for Indianapolis kids with a valid student ID). There are a variety of ticket packages available for festival goers to choose what is right for them. For more information about the films being screened and how to purchase tickets, visit the LGBT Film Festival website.
Hungry? Check out the IMA’s Cafe or the Indianapolis restaurants in the nearby Indianapolis cultural district, Broad Ripple Village, of Indianapolis downtown. After the films, continue the conversation at any of these great Indianapolis bars. Adventure is only a click away at Fun City Finder.com!
